KZSM — We’re looking toward the future

Sunday, December 23, 2018

Your true community radio station has now been in operation for almost two years. In that time, we have forged many friendships and established relationships with organizations throughout San Marcos and beyond. Our goal has been to become an integral element of our fair city and to provide our residents a platform from which to share the things that entertain, engage and enlighten them. The process is dynamic and continues as we march into the new year.

On Jan. 2, we will have been transmitting our broadcast, via the internet, for two years. It has been difficult at times, but the process has been carried out by your friends, neighbors and co-workers who have dedicated their own time and resources to ensure that San Marcos maintains a viable source for news, information, and entertainment. Despite using second-hand equipment that has been donated or sometimes borrowed, we have managed to sustain a 24-hour broadcast day with very few interruptions.

The new year brings a fresh start and with new officers at the helm of our board of directors, we anticipate new growth as we plan to replace equipment, expand programming and become more accessible. Look for new opportunities for community involvement, fresh program offerings and even more attention to the needs of our community.

In January we will partner with the public library to offer training to individuals who may be interested in hosting their own programs on your community radio station. Our Kissing Alley concert series has been popular, and we will continue to showcase talent from the Central Texas area. The heavy metal community has been flourishing through the efforts of Metal Mark and we plan to expand on this successful approach in other genres of music and entertainment.

Of course, this is only made possible by the continued efforts of our listeners and supporters. Come and get involved! We don’t expect everyone to become a radio host, but if you have a skill set, some sort of talent or abilities, and you are looking for an opportunity to serve your community, come and let us know. This is YOUR true community radio station. Come and be a part of it!

Please note that live programming for Christmas day will be suspended so that your radio hosts may spend the time with their families. We will play recorded music and holiday specials in their place.

KZSM (just a little bit south of weird) now streaming world-wide on the internet on KZSM.org.
