KZSM — What’s Your Favorite Music?

Sunday, February 28, 2021

“There is not a human being on earth who does not have a favorite song, lacking only somebody to play it,” Paulette Jiles tells us in her novel “Simon the Fiddler.” At KZSM.org, your true community radio station your favorite song may be somewhere among our hundreds of CDs, on one of our many vinyl records, recorded live directly into our archives, or stored on a DJ’s device to be played on the next show.

If your preference is for live and local, tune in to “Revolving Door,” Sundays from 6-8 p.m. Fridays from 8-10 p.m., host Carole Coburn of “Friday Night with Care” also talks with Texas musicians who often play live on her show.

For an eclectic mix of popular music, catch “Sid’s Place” (Mondays 4-6), “the best place to hear your favorite oldies,” host Sid Braverman proclaims. On Mondays from 9-10 p.m., enjoy “"Elvis & The Beatles, the greatest two artists in the history of Rock & Roll!!” on “The Mop Tops and the King,” broadcast world-wide from Chelmsford, MA with Steve Chelmsford. And if you like to think about your music, try “Philosophy and Popular Music” (Sundays noon-2 p.m.) Host Paul Wilson chooses his music with wit as well as wisdom; for instance, his Valentine’s show featured “the most insipid love songs.”

If you like to rock out, you can join "John-Luke Pretard, the Human Cannonball" on Wednesdays 10-p.m. to midnight for the full range of underground rock, from “the pre-dawn history of proto-rock 'n' roll to yesterday.” Thursdays 10 p.m. to midnight features “Metal Mark Live.” Host Mark Moniz has been celebrating heavy metal on the air in San Marcos for over twenty years, providing an outlet for local bands. Sundays 8-10 p.m. offers “Noise Therapy,” with “The Rev,” Chris Marsh, a “fun hard rock show” that airs across the US and abroad.

Besides pop and rock, KZSM presents “Celtic Corner” Saturdays noon to 2 p.m., “Downtown Funk” Tuesdays 8-10 p.m., experimental music Mondays 7-9 p.m. on “Dead Air Radio,” and much more. Shows featuring Americana and songs for kids are in the planning stages, and there’s room for more. We are currently seeking world, classical, country, Latinx, bluegrass and ... your favorite music, whatever it might be. E-mail KZSMSanMarcos@gmail.com with your ideas for a music show.
