KZSM has openings; not just for DJs

In previous columns we have invited others to volunteer their time to your true community radio station. Of course, we are always looking to improve our program line-up and provide programs that appeal to as many segments of our community as possible. However, there are many other positions to be filled that require varying levels of expertise. Since we have become a 501(c)(3) non-profit, we need experienced individuals to assist in administrative capacities. Specifically, we need individuals with experience who have the time and the inclination to work with our grant writers in researching grants, administering grant programs, and filing required reports. We have been on the air for 18 months and there is still a lot of work that needs to be done. We could also use the assistance of individuals with technical writing, I.T. skills and other clerical and administrative abilities. We are a volunteer organization and our radio hosts, who, besides producing some of the finest radio programs available, often don’t have the time or ability to fulfill all the duties that are required. For more information, please contact the station manager by sending a message to: stationmanager@kzsm.org.

Recently, we had a phenomenal turn-out at the Heavy Metal Meltdown. The event was so successful, that we have scheduled another similar event in September. We already have many bands applying and the plan is to have 18 heavy metal bands for a threeday event. Many thanks to the Buzzmill and everyone who made this event such a success!

As mentioned previously, we are always working to improve our program offerings. Because life often “gets in the way” as well, sometimes our radio hosts go on hiatus. We are happy to announce the return of Mark and Chris, formerly of “The Latest,” in their new offering called “Mixed Bag.” There are also some new programs in the works including a program for preschoolers which will be hosted by a daycare provider. Details are still being worked out and training will begin soon, so keep listening as we announce details as they develop.

Join us at the Farmer’s Market, The Kissing Alley or at our monthly volunteer staff meetings. We welcome ideas for new programs, suggestions, and recommendations on how we may better serve our listening audience.
