KZSM preparing for SMFest 2018

SMFest 2018 is on its way.

Thursday night, the festival will begin with the KZSM Kissing Alley Concert. This free, family-friendly, monthly event will feature three musical groups.First, 1476 (a dark, atmospheric Art Rock band) will start us off at 6:30 p.m., followed by Volur (with folk melodies, heathen spirituality and a hypnotic web of chthonic noise) at 7:30 p.m. and ending the evening with Dead Horse Creek (and their cowpunk, folk rock, spaghetti western stylings) at 8:30 p.m.

In association with the San Marcos Downtown Association, KZSM will be bringing you live broadcasts from the downtown festivities for this month’s Third Thursday Walkabout and the start of SMFest 2018.

In the studio, we have two new programs to enjoy. If you are a baseball fan, as our own Jeremiah Wilkerson is, tune in on Saturday mornings at 9 a.m. for The Six, Four, Three as he and Richard Watson keep you up to date with game schedules, scores, interviews and all things baseball. If books and authors are your thing, then tune in on Tuesday afternoons from 4 – 6 p.m. beginning on March 20 for Bookmarked with Priscilla and Deborah. We understand that there will be selected readings, discussions and interviews focusing on local authors.

Do you have an idea for something that may be of interest to the general public that you would like to share? Let us know. We are always looking for fresh ideas and intrepid individuals to implement them. If you have ever considered being on the radio or having your own radio program, we can make that happen for you. Training is free and may be scheduled around your primary commitments. Everyone in the KZSM family is a volunteer with various levels of expertise and experience. Come and join us. Our regularly scheduled volunteer staff meetings are held every third Wednesday at Wake the Dead Coffee House from 7:30 until 9 p.m. This month join us on March 21.

We have been livestreaming now for over a year and our listening audience continues to grow both in numbers and geographical locations. If you like what you are listening to and would like to support us, and you don’t have the time to volunteer, consider underwriting your favorite program. We are self-supported and subsist by the kind donations of our listening audience. We do not receive any kind of government support This is what YOUR true community radio is all about.
