KZSM radio programs for youth

In an effort to reach as many segments of our community as possible, your true community radio has been attempting to include young radio hosts and youth programs. Now that summer has begun, the prospects are looking much better. Our volunteer staff will be conducting workshops at the public library for teens. There will be two two-hour sessions at the library and one two-hour session in the radio station. Topics will include a brief history of radio as well as more technical aspects, covering audio equipment, software programs, and limited hands-on experience with the broadcast equipment.

It has also been brought to our attention that having a program of music and stories for young children is something to investigate as well. Several possibilities come to mind. Someone with childcare experience would be an excellent choice to produce this type of program. Please contact the station manager to discuss your interest and ideas on how to make this happen!

Have you ever considered being a radio host or DJ? We can make that happen! Join us at Wake the Dead Coffee House every third Wednesday from 7:30 until 9 p.m. for our volunteer staff meeting. Bring your ideas and suggestions on how we may better serve our community, or just come out and say hello to your true community radio family.

Join us in the Kissing Alley every third Thursday for live music brought to you by KZSM community radio, Mainstreet, and the Downtown Association. Our concerts are free, family-friendly, and open to the public! This month we will enjoy the music of Logun Timberlake and City of Light. We can also be seen at the San Marcos Farmer’s Market every Saturday from 9 a.m. until 1p.m. Stop by and say hello to Sarah, Tony, Jeremiah, and the various other radio hosts who happen to be there! Our volunteers are always happy to answer any questions you may have about your true community radio station. Application forms and printed program schedules are also available.

Don’t forget our benefit concert coming up on June 15th and 16th at the Buzzmill! If Heavy Metal is your thing, come on out and bang your head to 15 bands who have come together to benefit KZSM community radio and the San Antonio Battered Women’s Shelter. There is no cover charge.

KZSM, now streaming world-wide on the internet (Just a little bit south of weird!)
