LBJ’s Boot Scootin’ Birthday Fiesta coming up

The contributions of Lyndon Baines Johnson, the 35th President of the United States, are enormous and lasting. An avid proponent of civil rights and equal justice for all, LBJ’s words and vision of a better society stand as a clarion call in these challenging times.

LBJ’s birthday is Aug. 27, and this year, as always, the Hays County Democratic Party will be hosting a celebration of LBJ on what would have been his 109th birthday. “LBJ’s Boot Scootin’ Birthday Fiesta” will be held in Stone Hall at Texas Old Town in Kyle on Aug. 27, 3 to 6 p.m. The event, both a celebration and a fundraiser, will feature office holders and candidates; a catered enchilada casserole dinner with sides, salad, and drinks; a live auction; music and art; and a Texas-size good time. This is a free and open event, but donations are welcome.

When he signed the Immigration Bill on Liberty Island, New York, on Oct. 3, 1965, LBJ offered this stirring vision of an America that is welcoming and free:

Our beautiful America was built by a nation of strangers. From a hundred different places or more they have poured forth into an empty land, joining and blending in one mighty and irresistible tide.

The land flourished because it was fed from so many sources—because it was nourished by so many cultures and traditions and peoples.

We will celebrate LBJ and his vision of a “beautiful America” on Aug. 27. Join us.
