LBJ Museum holds 16th annual Ted Breihan Open

The LBJ Museum of San Marcos held its 16th Annual Ted Breihan Open Golf Tournament at Quail Creek Country Club in June with 12 teams and 48 golfers in competition.

The Tanner-McLean team won first place, followed by Scott Gregson’s team in second and the Carbajal #2 team in third. The longest drive was launched by Jeff “Jeppo” Gonzalez and Duncan Smith won the “closest to the pin” award.

Some 48 competitors participated in the event named in honor of long-time museum benefactor Ted Breihan.

Sponsorships were provided by many local San Marcos businesses and donors.

Raffle sponsors included Dick’s Car Museum, Aquabrew, Crafthouse, Ralph Garcia, Leyali’s Mediterranean Grill, the Root Cellar, LBJ Museum, Evo Entertainment, Grin’s, Cody’s Bistro, Kent Black’s BBQ, Seguin Brewing Company, the Rowing Dock, Plucker’s, Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, Twin Liquors, the Taproom and Top Golf.

Sponsors of the Silent Auction were Abigail’s Cabin, the Driskill Hotel, Wimberley Glass Works, Whataburger, Capital Cruises of Austin, Tito’s Vodka and Kendra Scott.

Contributors to the Golfers and Golfer Bags were San Marcos Convention & Visitors’ Bureau, Tanger Outlets, Century Link, Plucker’s, Palmer’s, and H-E-B.

“We are so grateful for the many community contributions to our successful golf tournament,” said Dr. Ed Mihalkanin, LBJ Museum board president. “This has become a signature annual event for our museum and we plan to continue it in the future.”

Located at 131 N. Guadalupe St. in San Marcos, the LBJ Museum honors the Hill Country legacy of President Lyndon B, Johnson, who forged his legacy in civil rights, education, and the Great Society as a student at Texas State University. The museum is free and open to the public Thursday-Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each week. Facilities are available for rent for area organizations.
