Lightning strike sparks house fire

Tuesday, July 10, 2018

A house in the El Camino Real subdivision on the south side of San Marcos caught fire on Saturday after being struck by lightning.

City spokesman Trey Hatt said that all fire units were dispatched to the house on Cordero Drive at 5:46 p.m. Saturday; the first unit arrived five minutes later. A portion of the roof had been burned through, Hatt said, and firefighters were able to put out the blaze quickly. The fire department’s investigation wrapped up a little after 8 p.m., Hatt said.

Numerous rounds of storms have swept through the area over the past several days, bringing lightning, wind and occasionally heavy rain. The forecast calls for the weather to dry out and heat up this week.
