Sunday, May 5, 2019

A man died in a crash on the State Highway 123 overpass on I-35 during Friday’s heavy rainstorm.

San Marcos Police, Fire and EMS responded to an accident that involved a 2010 Honda and a 2014 Ford F150, a press release from the city of San Marcos stated. While first responders traveled to the scene, witnesses claimed that a female passenger in the Honda was unresponsive and CPR was performed.

CPR and medical care was administered to the passenger, Enedina Roman, 62. She was taken to Seton Medical Center Hays in Kyle and underwent surgery. Her prognosis is unknown at press time.

The driver of the Honda, Pedro Roman-Abarca, 68, was taken to Central Texas Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Maggie H. Moreno.

The SMPD Collision Investigation Team determined that the Ford was driving southbound in the center lane, while the Honda was in the left lane and passed the Ford.

The investigation showed that the driver of the Honda lost control of the vehicle, while it was raining heavily. The Honda hit the concrete divider and spun back into traffic. The Ford hit the Honda on the driver’s side and sent the car back into concrete divider.

The driver of the Ford was uninjured. Both vehicles were towed to SMPD for further investigation.
