Marathon time is approaching

Sunday, September 9, 2018

It is that time, again, for the Run for the Americas to make its’ appearance this fall. This time, it will have a little more variety with the addition of an All-Women’s Half Marathon. The 5k fun run along with the women’s half marathon will be new running events in addition to the other races the Run for the America. The women’s half marathon is expected to be a phenomenal race and women of all ages are encouraged to give it a shot.

On Nov. 10, the Run for the Americas will host the 1st Annual All-Women’s Half Marathon. The event will start and end at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Conference Center at Interstate 35 and McCarty Lane. Registration begins at 7 a.m. and race will start at 8:15 a.m. There will be finisher medals for all runners as well as $1,000 in gift cards for overall 1st place, $300 in gift cards for overall 2nd place and $200 in gift cards for overall 3rd place. In addition to finisher medals, runners will receive medals for overall 1st through 6th place and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place medals for all age groups. Furthermore, the MCU Marathon will also have same medal placement and gift card prizes in the same amounts as the Women’s Half Marathon. The marathon is a certified course that could qualify runners for the Boston and New York Marathon.

Lastly, runners in the 15k and 10k and 5k Heroes for Kids Hunger run will receive medals for overall men’s/women’s 1st through 6th place, age group medals for 1st , 2nd, and 3rd, and $500 in gift cards for 1st place, $250 in gift cards for 2nd place, and $100 in gift cards for 3rd place. The 5k Heroes for Kids Hunger runners will receive a short sleeved shirt and the 15k and 10k runners will receive a long-sleeve shirt.

The Run for the Americas Event is part of the San Marcos Rattler Alumni Association agenda of providing “wellness” events and education, that can lead to a longer life. Our motto is “Lifestyle Living to age 100 or forever whichever comes first.” Living a long life takes two major goals and disciplines, which are almost identical in planning. Physical wellness is taking care of your body and fiscal wellness is taking care of your money to pay for the lifestyle. The “Wellness Expo” will provide four speakers to talk about both of these goals starting at 10 a.m. at the Embassy Suites & San Marcos Conference Center. In addition, there will be several wellness vendors participating, offering coupons, samples, and most importantly, info on wellness products.

The SMRAA will then host their annual all class Alumni reunion event, which includes many of the volunteers of the Running Events, the Golf Tournament, and Expo, starting at 5 p.m. For info on all events email: info@smrattleralumni.com.

For info all all runs go to the website; Live Healthy, Wealthy, and Wise to age 100.
