An overview of community radio station KZSM

Sunday, July 15, 2018

Our goal as a community radio station is to entertain, engage and enlighten. We provide a platform for members of our community to share their passions whether it be in the form of music, commentary, humor, political activism, news and information, or any combination of these. Our radio hosts add their own personal touches as they strive to produce some of the best programming available. This is remarkable in that every one of us does this on our own time and at our own personal expense as volunteers who do this for the love of radio! Although our programming is livestreamed around the world, the flavor of what we offer is truly San Martian!

One of our most rewarding functions is providing local performing artists an opportunity to highlight and promote their talent through live broadcast programs in the studio, the Kissing Alley concert series, and at various fundraisers held throughout the year. This is also done in partnership with other organizations such as SMFest, The San Marcos Downtown Association, the Mainstreet organization, and the many venues where our fundraisers are held.

We also provide opportunities for students who wish to learn about radio production and operations through internship programs and training workshops for teens. Watching the expression on a young person’s face as the spark of discovery ignites an interest in broadcasting is its own reward.

This week in the Kissing Alley, join us for our free, family-friendly concert which is always open to the public as part of the Third Thursday Walkabout program. Enjoy the music of Youngsville and the Revs. The program starts at 6 p.m. and will continue until 9 p.m.

If you would like to join your true community radio family or if you just have idea or suggestion that you would like to share with us, join us at Wake the Dead Coffee House on Wednesday, July18 from 7:30 until 9 p.m. for our monthly volunteer staff meeting. Our meetings are always open to the public. There is no obligation to become a radio host, although if you have an interest in doing so, we can make that happen!

The San Marcos Heavy Metal Triple Threat is coming to the Buzzmill on Sept. 21, 22, and 23. If you thought the last heavy metal concert was awesome, prepare yourselves for 18 bands in three days of heavy metal!
