Local DAR honors eight with student awards

Eight students were presented awards from the Capt. Thomas Moore Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution during a luncheon at the San Marcos Activity Center Feb 15.

Recipients of these awards are selected for demonstrating the qualities of leadership, good character, dependability, service and patriotism.

The Bronze Junior ROTC Medal was presented to cadets Bronson Downs of San Marcos High School’s Air Force JROTC and Hunter Hodge of San Marcos Academy’s Army JROTC program.

Texas State University ROTC cadets Andrea N. Gerner (Air Force) and Joshua Johnson (Army) received the Gold ROTC Medal Award while cadets Kelsey L. Shannon and Adenisse Riojas were presented the DAR Military Scholarship.

The DAR Good Citizen Award was presented to Kjesten Christensen of San Marcos Academy and Samantha Anderson of San Marcos High School.

Presenting the awards for the Captain Thomas Moore Chapter was Regent Jan Golick.
