Sales tax rebates continue to soar

San Marcos’ recent run of double-digit monthly sales tax allocations from the State Comptroller’s Office continues, with the city’s June check totaling more than $2.3 million.

The city was allocated $2,339,940.73 last week, Comptroller Glen Hegar’s office said. That figure is 15.21 percent higher than the city’s allocation in June 2017 and so far this year, the city is ahead by 33.82 percent compared to last year, having received $8,436,330.52 in the first half of 2018.

Of the 10 municipal taxing entities in Hays County, the monthly allocation to seven was up, while three saw declines.

Here’s how it all shakes out:

• Buda: Monthly allocation $547.588.73, up 19.67 percent from a year ago; so far this year Buda has been allocated $3.305,251.3, 12.50 percent above 2017.

• Dripping Springs: Monthly allocation $192,452.64, up 11.34 percent from a year ago; so far this year Dripping Springs has been allocated $1,111,072.57, an increase of 11.14 from 2017.

• Hays City: Monthly allocation $773.34, up 17.70 percent from a year ago; so far this year Hays City has been allocated $8,079.82, an increase of 17.65 percent from 2017.

• Kyle: Monthly allocation $611,531.36, up 7.49 percent; so far this year Kyle has been allocated $3,855.955.69, an increase of 8.67 percent from 2017.

• Mountain City: Monthly allocation $1,370.62, down 7.16 percent from a year ago; so far this year Mountain City has been allocated $10,075.44, an increase of 39.80 percent from 2017.

• Niederwald: Monthly allocation $2,867.65, down .36 percent from a year ago; so far this year Niederwald has been allocated $17,974.51, up 4.43 percent from 2017.

• Uhland: Monthly allocation $21.164.98, up 37.87 percent from a year ago; so far this year Uhland has been allocated $108,741.15, an increase of 18.42 percent from 2017.

• Wimberley: Monthly allocation $70,516.32, up .30 percent from a year ago; so far this year Wimberley has been allocated $450,339,30, an increase of 1.10 percent from 2017.

• Woodcreek: Monthly allocation $4,236.42, down 2.61 percent; so far this year Woodcreek has been allocated $25,768.55, up 8.20 percent from 2017.

Statewide, Hegar’s office said, Texas taxing districts were allocated $710.4 million this month, representing an increase of 11 percent.

June allocations represent sales that occurred in April.
