San Marcos Housing Task Force will meet today

Thursday, June 13, 2019

The City of San Marcos’ Workforce Housing Task Force will hold a meeting today at noon to begin reviewing an initial draft of its Strategic Housing Action Plan.

The meeting is set for 12 p.m.-2 p.m. at the San Marcos Activity Center. The Strategic Housing Action Plan is a part of the city’s SMTX 4 All initiative, which seeks to address San Marcos’ housing needs.

The city found, through a study conducted by Root Policy Research, that it has four key housing needs:

  • Additional affordable rentals for residents earning less than $25,000.
  • Prevention of displacement.
  • Homes priced near or below $200,000 and increased ownership product diversity.
  • Improvement of the condition and accessibility of existing housing stock.

Thursday’s meeting will work on prioritizing up to five specific plans of action as a part of the 3-year implementation timeline. The initial draft of the Strategic Housing Action Plan will be posted on Monday. The housing task force will take public comments and feedback during the summer before the task force sends the plan to the city council for final adaptation in September.
