Sean Patrick’s Irish Pub is ready for its annual St. Patrick’s Day block party. Today, the restaurant/pub transforms into a downtown festival complete with live music, green beer and lots of Irish food.
“It’s a day of celebration… and people embrace that kind of thing,” manager Scott Sullivan said.
The pub will spill out of its historic building on the square, shutting down San Antonio Street at LBJ in front of the restaurant. There will be face painters, food and bagpipers. Employees say it’s fun but a lot of work.
“I get here at 9 a.m. and I probably won’t leave until 3 a.m. so it’s a really long day,” server Allison Buel said.
Sean Patrick’s March 17 celebrations have become a staple of downtown since it opened more than a decade ago. They say they’ll have 25 kegs of green beer on hand as well as lots of holiday-themed food.
“This is the spot to go to in San Marcos,” said Jonathan Jaimes, who will be cooking hundreds of pounds of corned beef and sausage today. “For St. Patty’s Day, this is the place to go.”
