SMCISD board set for regular meeting

Sunday, July 14, 2019

The San Marcos CISD Board of Trustees are set to hold a regular meeting on Monday, where it has several items up for action.

The board will first consider a board policy update. The trustees will then consider the approval of purchase of attendance credits from the state.

The board will also discuss and take possible action regarding a cap on board member legal expenses. According to information provided by SMCISD, the board of trustees spent $3,359 in legal expenses from Jan. 1 - June 30.

The trustees will consider Texas Association of School Board slate of candidates as well as consider SMCISD representation to the San Marcos Economic Development Board. The city holds one spot on the economic development board for a SMCISD representative.

The board will consider approval of a memorandum of Understanding with the City of San Marcos for Resource Officer contract. SMCISD and the city have an agreement acting through the San Marcos Police Department for school resource officers.

The trustees will take possible action on a proposed resolution regarding proposed donation of real estate by La Cima San Marcos, LLC — 12-13.5 acres of land located as a apart of La Cima Master-Plan Community for a future elementary school site.

The board will consider approving schematic design for renovation and additions for DeZavala Elementary School.

The trustees will also consider rescinding a previous vote on construction of a central office. At a regular meeting on Feb. 18, the board voted 4-3 to table the discussion on constructing a central office to a later date. On April 15, the board had an item up for action to “Authorize Administration to initiate action in relation to the re-location of the central office building at the Suttles location.” However, no motion was taken by the board during that meeting.

The board will go into closed session to discuss the director of bilingual services. The trustees will also discuss with legal counsel regarding the proposed real estate donation by La Cima, a guaranteed maximum price amendment proposed by Cadence McShane Construction Company LLC for the Miller Middle School Addition and Renovation Project, and the construction delivery methods for the Miller Middle School Addition and Renovation Project.

The board will reconvene in open session to take action, if necessary, on the items discussed in closed session.

Monday’s meeting begins at 6 p.m. at San Marcos High School — 2601 Rattler Road — in the Criminal Justice Classroom.
