SMCISD trustees to vote on tax rate Monday

Sunday, August 19, 2018

The San Marcos CISD board of trustees will vote Monday night on the tax rate for the 2018-2019 school year.

The proposed tax rate of $1.4141 per $100 of valuation will provide just over $73 million to fund the district’s budget for the upcoming school year. Of the $1.4141, $1.06 is designated for maintenance and operations, with the remainder going toward the district’s interest and sinking fund. With the increase in property valuations in the district, the tax rate represents an effective tax increase of 4.99 percent.

The board also will vote on accepting the certified appraisal rolls for the district — a total of just under $5 billion in Hays County, $142 million in Caldwell County and $174 million in Guadalupe County.

In other business Monday night, the board will vote on schematic designs for the renovations at Crockett, Travis, Mendez, Hernandez and Bowie elementary schools. Trustees also will vote on a contract with the San Marcos Police Department for the provision of student resource officers on SMCISD campuses.

The board will meet at 6 p.m. at San Marcos High School.
