SMHS student in possession of handgun, arrested

This morning a staff member at San Marcos High School called an administrator to a classroom for a student the staff member suspected of potentially being under the influence. 

Campus administration brought the student into a secured setting with the School Resource Officer (SRO). During the course of searching, the student who was suspected to be under the influence, notified the campus administrator that the student was in possession of a handgun. The student was arrested. 

The San Marcos Police Department and the SMHS administrators followed safety protocols and identified the situation as an isolated incident. The campus returned to their regular schedule for the remainder of the school day.
