SMTX Pride festival and parade kicks off tomorrow

The annual SMTX Pride Festival is tomorrow and is free and open to the public. 

Saturday morning, the community celebration will begin with the Anti-Bully Pride March at Dunbar Recreation Center at 10 a.m. The parade route starts at Dunbar Park on Martin Luther King Dr. and moves down Martin Luther King to LBJ Dr., up LBJ to the Square and then on to San Marcos Plaza Park, where festivities will continue until 5 p.m. 

Community advocate Roland Saucedo is this year’s grand marshal.

“I am very honored and humbled to have been chosen to serve as Grand Marshall for this years SMTX Anti- bully Pride March,” Saucedo said.

Live music, drag shows and speakers will begin entertaining the crowd at noon. Performers include Shelly Lares, Aurazora and The Revs. Food and merchandise vendors will be on site at the festival, in addition to nonprofit organizations. Featured vendors include Loading Zone Grill and The Little Gay Shop.

The parking lot for San Marcos Plaza Park will be closed. Festival organizers recommend parking at the San Marcos Activity Center at 501 E. Hopkins St., San Marcos Public Library at 625 E. Hopkins St. or the parking lot for Veramendi Plaza Park on CM Allen Drive.

The official after party will be at Zelicks, located at 336 W. Hopkins St. A drag show begins at Stonewall Warehouse, 141 E. Hopkins St., at midnight to kick off the “Officially Unofficial Pride After Party.”
