State-of-the-art swimming center coming to Kyle

Sunday, December 5, 2021

Kyle will soon have a state-of-the-art swim center, Kyle Economic Development announced Friday.

Nitro Swimming, which describes itself as a “premiere source for swimming lessons and swim team for both kids and adults,” will break ground on an approximately 40,000 square-foot building located on the east side of FM 1626 north of Kohlers Crossing in January 2022, according to the City of Kyle. The state-of-the-art swim center will include two pools with an instructional pool and Olympic-size competition pool, indoor deck space, climate-controlled viewing area and the ability to host swim meets with approximately 400-500 athletes and room for spectators.

“We are excited to have a business like Nitro Swimming join our growing and thriving business community,” Kyle Economic Development Director Diana Blank-Torres said. “They are bringing a unique industry of destination recreation as well as a top tier swim safety center to our region that will further strengthen our local economic diversity."

The city said the instructional pool will include five lanes and will be 25 yards in length with overflow gutters. The competition pool will feature 24 lanes of “short course,” which is considered 25 yards, and 10 lanes of “long course,” consisting of 50 yards. The pool will have custom starting/racing platforms, electronic timing system and scoreboard with full read out of the racing lanes.

Nitro Swimming, which was formed by Mike and Tracy Koleber in August 2006, offers swim lessons, including programming for anyone 6 months and older, and a top competitive swim team.

“Nitro’s mission statement is very straightforward and we live by it every day: ‘Visible improvement, delivered with passion and joy, every day,’” Mike Koleber said. “Our goal is to make each swimmer a little better every day and it doesn’t matter who that swimmer is — a beginner or a competitive athlete.”

Nitro Swimming is a supporter and partner of the Special Olympics of Central Texas and the facilities are utilized for water rescue training for law enforcement and emergency first responders as well as by local scout troops for certification needs, the City of Kyle said.

The swim facility’s grand opening is slated for late 2022, the city added. For more information about Nitro Swimming, go to www.nitroswim.com.
