Student-led forum on gun violence to be held Saturday in New Braunfels

In the wake of multiple mass shootings and the recent March For Our Lives and National School Walkout Day, students are becoming a recognizable force in the world of politics. Teens are demanding that their representatives listen to their voices and enact legislation that ensures the safety of every child.

Students from Texas Senate District 25, which covers Hays, Comal and Guadalupe counties, will lead an engaging discussion on gun violence prevention in Central Texas with political leaders, candidates and community members Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the New Braunfels Public Library, 700 East Common Street.

The goals of the event are to educate the public (especially young people) on gun laws and unite students in a coalition advocating for common sense gun laws and working to protect our community from gun violence.

Student leaders from local youth organizations will moderate the event, and Q&A priority will be given to those under the age of 25.

Expected to attend are New Braunfels Police Chief Tom Wibert; Steven Kling, Democratic party candidate for Texas Senate District 25; Susan Nelson, gun violence survivor and activist and board member of Texas Gun Sense’ and Selina Eshraghi, UT student and organizer for Austin March for Our Lives.

State Senator Donna Campbell (RNew Braunfels) has been invited.
