Truck driver survives fiery wreck
A truck driver escaped with only minor injuries Friday morning when the 18-wheeler he was driving went off the road on Staples Road and caught fire.
It happened around 5:38 a.m. and police closed the roadway until around 9:20 a.m., Commander Kelly Bomersbach of the San Marcos Police Department said.
A second 18-wheeler and a couple of freight-container style storage boxes on property of the San Marcos CISD adjacent to DeZavala Elementary School also burned, she said.
The driver had been headed inbound on Staples and may have been exceeding the speed limit, Bomersbach said.
