UPD looking into threat of school shooting

TXST UNIVERSITY

Texas State University Police Department investigators are looking into a campus security threat made earlier this week.

A Twitter user named Hope Jenkins who identified herself as a Texas State University student posted on June 5 that on the day before, a student in her criminology class “blatantly shared her desire to self harm and shoot up a school.”

In the Twitter thread about the incident, Jenkins wrote, “She also emphasized that if she had the ‘means’ to perform the school shooting she would do it. With everything that has gone on, how can anyone take that lightly?”

Jenkins tweeted that investigators had spoken to the class and that the student, who allegedly had been told not to return to class, “showed up early to class today and sat right front and center.”

Texas State University Dean of Students Margarita Arrellano released a statement about the incident:

“University Police Department (UPD) is aware of a reported student comment made on June 4 regarding campus security. The student involved is being assisted by the university and the university is actively engaged in the continuing support of the student.”

The incident was not reported on the UPD daily crime and fire log, which only has one incident — late-night illegal dumping on June 4 — listed.
