VFW to honor POWs, MIAs

Sunday, September 16, 2018

On Friday Sept. 21 at 7 p.m., Maurice T Suttles, VFW Post 3413 at 1701 Hunter Road, San Marcos will honor our nation’s prisoners of war and missing in action (POW/MIA) for all wars and conflicts at our Annual Ceremony.

The San Marcos High School AFJROTC Honor Guard will present the flag and perform the Missing Man Table Ceremony.

Hays County Veterans Service Officer Jude Prather, who is a Life Member of Post 3413, will be speaking about the importance of remembering our POWs and MIAs, so we get everyone home from all wars. Loretta Eiben, a teacher at Miller Middle School and Life Member of Post 3413 Auxiliary, will talk about her brother Donald Matocha, a Marine who was MIA in Vietnam. It took 38 years for his remains to be recovered and returned. She will talk about how they finally found her brother, and we will show the documentary about how everything took place. The movie’s title is “An Ocean Away.” We will have popcorn, soft drinks and finger foods for the movie.

This event is open to all military and civilians who would like to join us for the evening.
