VFW Post 3413 to host annual POW/MIA ceremony

VFW Post 3413 is set to host its annual Prisoner of War/Missing in Action Ceremony on Friday, Sept. 20. 

Texas State Sen. Donna Campell and Norman “Norm” Copeland are scheduled to speak at the event which begins at 7 p.m. The public is invited to attend this event. 

San Marcos Air Force Junior ROTC will post the colors and perform the “Missing Man” table ceremony. 

Campbell is the Chairwoman of the Veterans Affairs & Veteran Affairs & Border Security Committee. She represents a six-county district including parts of Bexar, Comal, Guadalupe, Hays, Kendall and Travis counties. Senator Campbell will discuss her views on POW/MIAs. 

Copeland currently serves as chief of staff for Texas VFW District 17 and is a member of VFW Post 3542 in Jewett. Copeland retired from the U.S. Navy after 20 years of service primarily in submarines. Copeland's first cousin, Col. H. C. Copeland, USAF was shot down over North Vietnam on July 17, 1967and held as a POW until March 14, 1973. Copeland will be telling about the frustration of having his first cousin in Vietnam and not being able to rescue him.
