Workforce housing discussion on tap for council
Workforce housing will take the center stage at the San Marcos City Council’s workshop meeting at 3 p.m. today.
Council will hear a staff presentation on the city’s Workforce Housing Task Force and the work it has done since its inception last year. The task force is set to work with city staff and local stakeholders to address San Marcos’ housing needs through the SMTX 4 All Housing Program. A community meeting on the city’s workforce housing initiative is scheduled for 5:30-7:30 Wednesday evening at the Rec Hall at City Park.
At the council’s regular meeting at 6 p.m., council is set to consider amendments to the city’s affordable/workforce housing policy relating to council’s consideration of support for low-income housing tax credit projects. The changes would include a criterion for support services providing voluntary social, economic or educational benefits to residents.
Council also will consider authorizing negotiations of a development agreement for about 813.5 acres at the intersection of Ranch Road 12 and Fulton Ranch Road. The applicant, Warner Land Advisors L.P., is requesting the development agreement for a proposed mixed use, single-famil, multifamily and commercial development. The property is located in San Marcos’ extraterritorial jurisdiction. The council could appoint a committee to review the development agreement.
In other business, council is set to consider awarding a $360,000 design-build construction agreement to Flintco LLC for the new Fire Station No. 2 that was approved as part of the city’s 2017 bond. Council is also set to approve an interlocal agreement with the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization related to a study grant aimed at enhancing multimodal transportation in San Marcos and the capital area.
Council will meet in the council chambers at City Hall, 630 E. Hopkins St., at 3 p.m. and again for its regular meeting at 6 p.m. City council meetings are televised live on Spectrum Ch. 10 and Grande Ch. 16 or 123-16 and streamed online.
