Your community radio station is looking ahead

Sunday, July 29, 2018

If anyone had informed us sooner about how much fun it is to be a radio host on a community radio station, most of us would be looking forward to celebrating greater milestones than 100+ episodes on the air! In over a year-and-a-half, many of our volunteers can now state unequivocally, that they have produced over one hundred separate episodes of their programs. When one considers that some individuals host more than one program, the totals become even more impressive. However, producing programs is only a fraction of the efforts our volunteers are responsible for. There are other events which we host.

In association with the Downtown Association and San Marcos Mainstreet, we have been hosting our concerts in the Kissing Alley every third Thursday as a part of the Third Thursday Walkabout series. This family-friendly, and free event presents some of the best local musical performers in central Texas. Join us on Aug. 16th from 6 until 9 p.m. for Conwaythewhale and Winter Fires.

Occasionally, we hold fundraising concerts and activities and we attempt to schedule our musical guests to reflect holidays and seasons. Some things that are already on the schedule are the KZSM Heavy Metal Triple Threat being held at the Buzzmill on Sept. 21st, 22nd, and the 23rd. If you missed jumping into a mosh pit at the last heavy metal concert we hosted, there will be another opportunity to do so again!

Our Halloween events will include another concert at Wake the Dead Coffee House. The date for that event has yet to be determined and information will be made available soon. Also, for Halloween, the costume contest in the Kissing Alley is going to be held again, as per popular demand.

Jumping ahead to February, since it is Valentine’s month and the Kissing Alley has a reputation for romance, we will be taking applications from couples who would like to have their nuptials performed in this unique venue. If a ship’s captain can marry couples at sea, then shouldn’t a radio station manager be able to do it in the Kissing Alley? More information will be forthcoming as it develops.

Join us at Wake the Dead Coffee House on Aug. 15th for our monthly volunteer staff meeting. Bring your unique ideas for a fundraiser and you’re your community radio station family!

KZSM (just a little bit south of weird!) now streaming worldwide on the internet!
