A historical marker, years in the making, will be dedicated at Cuauhtémoc Hall on Saturday.
In the early 1900s the Mexican American community struggled to gain improvements in educational and social services, so a group of community members formed La Sociedad Mutualista Cuauhtémoc. This year marks the 81st anniversary of its formation. The Hays County Commissioners Court issued a proclamation recognizing La Sociedad Mutualista Cuauhtémoc on June 20 for the historical marker that will be dedicated at 10 a.m. at Cuauhtémoc Hall, located at 1100 Patton Street, on Saturday.

On Saturday, La Sociedad Mutualista Cuauhtémoc will mark its 81st year serving as a gathering space for Latinos in the San Marcos community. Festivities will begin at 10 a.m. at Cuauhtémoc Hall with the unveiling of its historical marker, which was recognized on June 20 with a proclamation issued by Hays County.
A prescribed burn affecting approximately 100 acres in Northern Hays County today will be a source of visible smoke that residents should be aware of, taking necessary precautionary measures when driving in the vicinity.
The City of San Marcos Public Works Department is partnering with Capital Area Rural Transportation Systems (CARTS) to expand SMTX The Bus route 1 to include Map Description automatically generatedservice to the Village Main of San Marcos, 215 S. Reimer Ave., beginning July 10, 2023. The expansion will improve access to public services and critical offices including the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC), Any Baby Can, and Community Action, Inc. of Central Texas.

Helping man's best friend beat the heat
Although remote work was a notable and growing segment of overall employment before the pandemic, COVID-19 dramatically ramped up the process. During the worst of the shutdowns, it was often either that or nothing (unless one was an “essential” worker). While many have since returned to offices, the way we work has fundamentally changed.
