Court honors veteran

A community member was honored for the many militaristic accomplishments achieved in his 30 years of service as well as his decade-long stint on this earth. Hays County Commissioners Court proclaimed Nov. 7, 2023, as Lt. Col. George C. Carruthers Day.

KZSM–Jordan Minor, Slim Bawb Pearce Thursday at Kissing Alley

For our November Kissing Alley concert, KZSM 104.1 presents Jordan Minor and the Bottom Dollar Band for an evening of distinctive country and gospel music. Join us this Thursday, Nov. 16, from 7-9 p.m. in the historic alley off Hopkins Street across from the courthouse. Our free, family-friendly concerts are funded by the San Marcos Arts Commission.

Bobbie Garza-Hernandez was recently inducted into the San Marcos Women's Hall of Fame for her volunteerism and leadership. These are qualities she shares with her family. Pictured is the Garza family when they donated to Centro Cultural Hispano de San Marcos Library.

Ignacio & Manuelita Garza (Garza-Hernandez' great grandparents and original owners of properties) passed down their properties to Marcos & Fidela Garza (Garza-Hernandez' grandparents) who were forced to move when their properties were seized by imminent domain in order to make Rio Vista Park.

History is important; it teaches people who they are and where they come from and it gives examples of the impacts of certain behaviors–both positive and negative. A well-documented historical record can also provide people with access to knowledge that would otherwise be forgotten.

County, Austin Pets Alive! to host Pet Resource Center meetings

Hays County and Austin Pets Alive! have announced their November community meetings for the public to learn more about the Hays County Pet Resource Center. Community members are invited to attend to hear updates about the project, ask questions, and share their insights regarding the needs of people and pets in Hays County. There are four meetings scheduled throughout November in each precinct.
