Majestic Monarchs in Town

The journey south is beginning as these Monarch butterflies enjoy a brief layover in San Marcos this past Sunday. The butterflies are on a 2,500-mile trek from Canada, where they breed, to the forests of central Mexico, where they will hibernate. In Central Texas, these Monarchs wallow in the copious blooms of a purple sage hedge near Christus Hospital on Wonder World Drive. Daily Record photos by Celeste Cook
