SMCISD De Zavala Elementary’s PTO hosted a Fall Festival on Thursday, Oct. 19, featuring an evening full of games, food, a trunk or treat and a haunted hallway and school bus. Students and staff had a chance to dress in Halloween finery for the event.

For his many contributions to the San Marcos community, the late John A. Diaz was named as this year’s Día de los Muertos 5K Honoree.
With a fast-growing population and the need to handle additional inquests, Hays County recently swore in Judge J.R. Mendoza, Jr., as the Justice of the Peace (JP), Pct. 2, Place 2.

The city of San Marcos’ new Economic and Business Development Manager Christian Smith is slated to be guest speaker at the Wednesday, Oct. 25, regular meeting of the Rotary Club of San Marcos.

It is important to acknowledge the women that are making a difference in the community, and the city of San Marcos hosts an annual award ceremony to do just that. Mary Peterson Earls, Nancy Hanks Ellis, Bobbie Garza-Hernandez and Mittie Miller were recently inducted into the Hall of Fame for providing assistance to those in need and demonstrating leadership qualities.
The Texas House and Senate are at odds over how much discretion to give state leaders in funding a private-school voucher program–the latest flashpoint in the ongoing battle between the two chambers over whether the state should help schoolchildren pay for a private education.
