Putting the 'rainbow' in reading

Local drag queen Madylin Monroe Kennedy reads aloud from “Goldilocks and the Three Bears” by Emma Chichester Clark to children, parents and attendees during the Drag Queen Story Hour at Jo on the Go. Drag Queen Story Hour is part of a larger movement nation-wide that combines reading with imagination and equality.

Local musician Andy Hartsock plays guitar as he sings “Big Bad Wolf,” a song with a very different approach to the children’s tale of “The Three Little Pigs,” to the assembled children, parents and event attendees during Drag Queen Story Hour.

The crowd sits in rapt attention as Hartsock sings the ballad of “Wilhelmina and Seymour,” a song about a porcupine and an aardvark.

Children and their parents sit together as they listen to  Hartsock’s “Big Bad Wolf” song.

Kennedy reads aloud from “It’s Okay To Be Different” by Todd Parr, a book about celebrating  your individuality and accepting others.
