The Rattler Recap: San Marcos vs Manor

Final: San Marcos 39, Manor 36

Takeaway

San Marcos simply played its hearts out Friday night. It took pride, guts and fight for the Rattlers to climb out of the 21-point deficit they found themselves in at halftime. An offense that has moved the ball all year got shut out in the first half for the first time. With that said, a stout San Marcos defense kept the game within reach. Aside from three big plays, Manor was unable to maintain momentum in front of a home crowd. The Mustangs found themselves on their heels once San Marcos chipped away at the lead and slowly gained confidence. The Rattlers capitalized on a handful of late turnovers and ran away with the game.

Key Points

Nothing was given to San Marcos Friday. The Rattlers were up against an appearingly  impossible task with a stalled offensive attack. Coming back from 21 points alone is a tall task itself. To pull it off and steal a win on the road is even more impressive. This San Marcos team is learning how to win at the right time in the season. A win like this not only shows where the program is and where it is heading, but the foundation from which it is being built on.

Defense was the key factor in this game. Manor threw everything at the Rattlers but San Marcos stood strong. The Mustangs had a handful of opportunities to run away with the game but couldn’t take advantage of the situations. Some turnovers and 4th down stands kept hopes up that the Rattler offense would get rolling. Once momentum shifted to San Marcos, Manor consistently found itself behind the chains.

San Marcos has proven it is here to compete. The Rattlers accepted every challenge thrown at them this year and battled. Two games remain in the regular season as the Rattlers move forward. This was a significant win with playoff implications on the line. San Marcos will enjoy, learn from and move on to next challenge in front of it as it has all season. But Friday was a big win. More importantly, the manner in which they won.
