State sweeps Little Rock, records 20th win of season

Texas State earned its 20th win of the season with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-16) sweep over Little Rock on Sunday inside Strahan Coliseum. 

This is the fourth time in five years the Bobcats have claimed at least 20 wins in a season. It’s also head coach Karen Chisum’s 24th 20-win season during her 38-year tenure at Texas State. 

After the Trojans held an early 5-4 advantage in the opening set, the Bobcats used a 9-0 run to grab a 13-5 lead. Texas State powered its way to a 25-16 first set win. 

Both teams battled early in the second set with Little Rock clinging to a 13-10 lead when the Bobcats went on an 11-1 run to claim a 21-14 advantage. Texas State secured a 25-21 second set victory. 

The third set was another fight, but the Bobcats again used a large run to their advantage. Texas State used a 14-4 run to take control of the set and earned a 25-16 victory and the sweep. 

Junior middle blocker Madison Daigle paced the Bobcats with 12 kills and a team-high .478 hitting percentage. Daigle recorded six blocks as well. Sophomore outside hitter Megan Porter tallied 12 digs and nine kills and sophomore outside hitter Amy Pflughaupt recorded nine digs, seven kills, four blocks and three aces. Senior setter Erin Hoppe amassed a match-high 36 assists and sophomore libero Micah Dinwiddie had 25 digs.  

Texas State led the match in kills, 40-32, hitting percentage, .252-.080, assists, 40-31, aces, 7-1, digs, 66-44, and blocks, 10-4. 

Texas State continued its season against UT-Arlington on Monday, which concluded after press time.
