On becoming a DJ or radio host with KZSM

Have you ever wondered about the face or the personality behind the voice you hear coming out of your radio? Some of our listeners have taken the opportunity to attend events sponsored by your community radio station and have met the personalities behind those voices. We’re a fairly normal bunch of folks who have become a radio family with the common ingredient being our passion and love of radio. It takes time to prepare, produce and eventually promote an hourly program once a week. When one considers that several of our radio hosts produce more than one program a week, which also involves editing, it becomes obvious that we are truly committed to what we do!

Having said that, there is a great deal to be gained by doing what we do. By providing a service to our listeners, entertaining, engaging, enlightening, informing, and providing thought- provoking insights, we avail ourselves of the opportunity to express our passions, interests, and share with others the things that inspire us and hopefully inspire others as well. Being a community radio station, we provide the opportunity for others to join our family and utilize this venue to share what inspires you. Th ere are many time slots available and we continue our recruitment efforts to not just fi ll those time slots, but to meet the needs and desires of our listening community which, since we are live streaming, reaches listeners all over the globe. Of course, volunteering with us does not mean that one must be a radio host, we are also in need of support staff, radio interns, and sometimes, just a few able-bodied volunteers to help set-up for our live functions away from the studio.

Our volunteer staff meetings are open to the public. Come and join us at Wake the Dead Coffee House on Wednesday, Dec. 13 from 7:30 p.m. until approximately 9 p.m. Find out how we may help each other. After all, this is your true community radio station.

Visit with us at the Farmer’s Market on Saturday mornings or attend one of our free Kissing Alley concerts. Our radio hosts will be glad to answer any questions you may have. Th e San Marcos High School Orchestra will perform on Dec. 21. As always, our concerts are family-friendly and open to the public.
