Texas State head coach Danny Kaspar is a fan of the Eagles. The band that is. In particular, he draws upon the song Desperado when thinking about offense and defense.

Kaspar points out these lyrics from the 1973 love song: “Don't you draw the queen of diamonds, boy. She'll beat you if she's able. You know the queen of hearts is always your best bet.”

“What I always thought about that was it’s a love song - choose a woman whose heart is pure and loves you for you no matter how much money is in your pocket versus a lady who is materialistic,” Kaspar said after the Bobcats win over McMurry on Dec. 6. “That’s how I feel about offense. Offense is the queen of diamonds, defense is the queen of hearts. We can shoot the ball poorly and still win games, if we play great D. But we can’t win games shooting the ball poorly and playing even mediocre on defense, we just can’t do that.”

The Bobcats look to improve their shooting and build on their defensive effort when they return to the court after a week off.

Texas State (5-5) takes on Colorado State on Sunday at 4 p.m in Fort Collins, Colorado. The Bobcats will try to rebound from a 72-68 loss to Abilene Christian on Dec. 9, where the Bobcats had a higher shooting percentage, a higher 3-point percentage and outrebounded the Wildcats.

The Rams enter Sunday’s game at 4-6 and are coming off a 95-65 loss to Oregon.

The Bobcats game against Colorado State is one of three remaining non-conference games. Texas State begins Sun Belt play against Appalachian State on Dec. 29
