Recycled River Monster

Discarded and lost items Nick Menchaca has removed from the San Marcos River were recycled into this big, vaguely suckermouth catfish creature that now adorns his yard on Riverside Drive. With fins made of sunglass lenses, the beast is stuffed with cans and its teeth made from keys and small pieces of plastic. The monster was created by Menchaca and Janaye Williamson. It made its debut at the Mermaid Parade in September. Not all the items classified as trash, however — one fin sports an Epipen, an expensive prescription medication to prevent anaphylactic shock.
