For the second year in a row, "Do Good December" has been put on by the junior class of Hill Country Christian School.

The class of juniors that put on "Do Good December" this year was the lead by Class President Zachary Busse and Vice President Aiden Seale. "Do Good December" was a service project sponsored by the Chick-Fil-A Leader Academy in the junior class’ leadership curriculum. The project was to provide a gesture or service in which the students gave something back to their community, so in lieu of the previous year’s success at Stone Brook Seniors Community, this year’s juniors decided a return visit was a must. Accompanying the juniors on their excursion to spread holiday cheer were several students from the freshman, sophomore and senior classes.

In order for the event to be a hit with those at Stone Brook, a drive for donations was needed and for two weeks the junior class received pre-made goodie bags from school families and supplies like fuzzy socks, crossword books, decks of cards, small candies and little knickknacks. As a slight incentive, a reward of a Chick-Fil-A lunch, sponsored by the San Marcos Chick-Fil-A, was offered as a reward for the class that donated the most complete bags or materials to complete a full bag. By the slim margin of a single bag, the third grade class came out victorious. Classes from preschool through the twelfth grade donated items and they ended up making more than double the original amount of bags they had planned to be delivered.

On Thursday, Dec. 14, with the goodie bags and students loaded up in the school van, the group of more than 30 students was bound for Stone Brook ready to spread Christmas cheer with carols prepared and a hot Chick-fil-A lunch ready to be presented to the awaiting residents.

The event began with the students serving the lunch and once everyone had received a meal, the students began their caroling of classic Christmas songs. Once the caroling recital had concluded, goodie bags were passed out and stories were exchanged between the students and the residents.

As predicted, "Do Good December" was a huge hit with the residents of Stone Brook. Almost all of the donated chicken nuggets and fruit salad donated by Chick-Fil-A was distributed and there was enough left over goodie bags that several small groups of students went around the buildings passing out the extras to whoever they could find. Plenty of pictures were taken and even more stories were shared as the high schoolers brought a warm, delicious meal and Christmas cheer to the community at Stone Brook.

Both the residents and high schoolers enjoyed their time spent together and with the success of both events next year’s juniors will most likely plan yet another trip to Stone Brook.
