CTMC, Seton earn high marks in Medicare ranking

The two hospital options most available for San Marcos seniors both fared well in a recent Medicare hospital comparison survey.

Central Texas Medical Center and Seton Hays Medical Center in Kyle ranked highly in the survey, with Seton receiving two stars out of fi ve and CTMC receiving three.

Both are Acute Care facilities that provide emergency services, are able to receive lab results and to track patients’ lab results, tests and referrals electronically. Each uses “safe surgery” checklists for outpatient and inpatient surgery and employ a survey on “patient safety culture.”

CTMC, the survey noted, was ranked “same as national average” for mortality, patient experience, effectiveness of care, timeliness of care and efficient use of medical imaging. It was rated above the national average for readmission and below the national average for safety of care.

Seton was ranked “same as the national average” in mortality and effectiveness of care. Seton was rated below the national average in safety of care, readmission and timeliness of care and above the national average in patient experience and efficient use of medial imaging.
