Texas State was picked to finish third in the Sun Belt west division, the conference announced on Tuesday.

The league selected Louisiana to win the west with nine-first place votes. UT Arlington, the west division defending champion, was tallied to finish in second place with two first-place votes. The Bobcats came in third with one first-place vote. Rounding out the preseason poll was Arkansas State at No. 4, Little Rock at No. 5 and Louisiana-Monroe at No. 6.

South Alabama was unanimously selected to win the Sun Belt east division with 12 first-place votes. Coastal Carolina was picked to finish second followed by Georgia Southern in third place.

Troy was picked to finish in fourth place, Georgia State in fifth place and Appalachian State in sixth.

The 2018 season is the second campaign featuring division competition in the Sun Belt. Each division has six teams, and division champions will be awarded at the end of the season, which is determined by winning percentage against all teams regardless of division.

Texas State is coming off a 29-30 season in 2017, where the Bobcats went 13-17 in Sun Belt play.

Texas State begins its 2018 season with a three-game series against Oklahoma State on Feb. 16-18 inside Bobcat Ballpark.
