Ardyce Raye Posey Cravens

Ardyce Raye Posey Cravens, 79, of Austin, TX, surrounded by her family, passed away on Friday, Jan. 26. Ardyce was born in San Marcos, TX to a large, loving Hill Country family where she was the third of 6 children. She attended San Marcos High School and then Texas State Teacher’s College (now Texas State University) where she met Gary Cravens who would become her devoted husband for 50 years.

She was a talented, fashionable and kind-hearted woman and was welcoming to everyone she met. Never one to see imperfections in people, she always found a way to see their best attributes and this was why she was loved so much by everyone who met her.

Ardyce’s ongoing passion was her sewing and she was quite a seamstress; she kept her beloved grandchildren in grand Halloween costumes, and even designed and sewed a daughter’s wedding dress. She made sure her home, as well as her that of her children, always had the most in-style curtains and upholstery.

She and husband Gary filled their home and their lives with their 6 children and 10 grandchildren, and Ardyce loved every part of her big family. She was known as “Mammy” to everyone and her house was always full of fun and lots of love. Evidence of that love was present as she passed from this earth, with her large family around her, loving her, remembering her and laughing about the many good times everyone had spent with their beloved “Mammy.”

Ardyce is survived by her husband, Gary Cravens Sr., 5 siblings Peggy Cox, Ruby Pieser, Sandra Grant, Jess Posey and Mellie Minton; her children Gary Cravens Jr. and his wife Suzy, Steven Cravens, Rhonda Peirce and her husband David, Lanna Mouser and her husband Stephen , Gina Pounds and her husband Michael, Farra Copley and her partner Jaymes Willoughby; 10 grandchildren Cayla Cravens, Andrew Maybin, Kendall Cravens, Mallory Cravens, Lauren Pounds, Thomas Copley, Hannah Maybin, Alesha Pounds, Avery Copley and Collin Copley; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Addicus Legacy Dog Rescue.

Family will receive friends at Pennington Funeral Home, on Thursday, Feb. 1, 2018, beginning at 12 p.m., followed by A Celebration of Ardyce’s Life at 2 p.m., in the Pennington Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Joel Densman officiating. Interment will follow at the San Marcos City Cemetery.
