Texas State junior right-hand pitcher Connor Reich was named Sun Belt pitcher of the week, the conference announced Tuesday.

This is Reich’s first weekly honor of his career. He is the first Bobcat pitcher to receive the award since Jeremy Hallonquist on March 21, 2016.

Reich put together a strong outing during Texas State’s 10-1 win over Oklahoma State on Saturday.

Reich struck out eight, only allowed two hits and didn’t give up a walk in seven innings pitched. It was the first time in his career that he didn’t allow a walk.

Softball: MacKay receives conference award

Texas State sophomore third base Hailey MacKay was named Sun Belt player of the week, the conference announced on Tuesday.

MacKay went 10-of-16 at the plate in six games for the Bobcats. She hit two home runs and two doubles. MacKay brought home five runs and drew four walks during Texas State’s game against Boston College on Feb. 12 and the five games at the Littlewood Classic at Farrington Softball Stadium in Tempe, Arizona during the weekend.

“We are extremely excited for Hailey,” head coach Ricci Woodard said in a statement. “She has come in and been a consistent force in our line-up from game one. She can display the power, but then also find ways to have quality at bats almost every plate appearance. This is a great honor for her and our program. We look forward to her future in Maroon and Gold.”
