KZSM promotes arts and culture

As your true community radio station, KZSM is dedicated to promoting the arts and artists, especially those who call Central Texas “Home.” In the coming weeks, SMFEST 2018 will be bringing you some of the best in local music, comedy, film and art. We are honored to be a co-sponsor of this fabulous event along with the San Marcos Arts Commission! Talented individuals from San Marcos, Hays County, and many surrounding communities will be represented.

The kick-off for the festival will begin on Thursday, March 15 during our monthly Kissing Alley Concert where we will present three musical groups as opposed to our regular two bands.1476 will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by Volur at 7:30 p.m. and then we’ll wrap up with Dead Horse Creek who will perform at 8:30 p.m. Our Kissing Alley Concert series is presented as part of the Third Thursday Walkabout program. These concerts are free, family-friendly, and open to the public, so come and join us in the Kissing Alley! Don’t forget to bring a non-perishable food item to donate to the Hays County Food bank to help those in need.

Your community radio station is self-supporting and does not rely on government funding. If you would like to support KZSM, join our team of volunteers by attending our staff meetings which are held every third Wednesday from 7:30 until 9 p.m. at Wake the Dead Coffee House, or you may visit with our volunteer DJs at any one of our functions such as the Kissing Alley concerts or the Farmer’s Market on Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Occasionally, we also hold fundraisers (since we are self-supporting) or, if you have a favorite program that you enjoy, consider underwriting the show. Our volunteers can answer questions you may have about how to go about getting that done.

We are always evolving and improving, so our program schedule changes often as we add new programs! Coming soon is a project that we have all been looking forward to. If you are interested in books, authors (especially local ones), and literary endeavors, then be sure to stay tuned for our newest program which will be airing soon. More details will follow as we develop them.

If you have an idea for a program, let us know what you would like to hear. Even if you don’t think you’d like to be “on the air,” we may still be able to develop your idea into something that will appeal to our greater listening audience. Let us know…
