Commissioners weigh contract in road project

Hays County

Contracts for road work projects around the county are on the agenda for the Hays County Commissioners Court this morning.

The commissioners will consider authorizing a contract for engineering services with American Structurepoint, Inc., for a safety and mobility project at the intersection of Ranch to Market Road 150 and RM 12 in Precinct 4. The project is part of the county’s 2016 Road Bond Program. The contract is for intersection improvements design services.

The court also will consider authorizing a contract with Doucet and Associates as design engineer for the Old San Antonio Road rehabilitation project. Precinct 2 Commissioner Mark Jones and the county Transportation Department recommend Doucet and Associates for the contract; if the commissioners approve, county staff will begin negotiations to determine the scope and fee of the project. The Old San Antonio Road improvements project is meant to accommodate traffic from an elementary school being built.

In other business, the commissioners will consider an agreement with Blair Wildlife Consulting for environmental inspections during construction of a parking lot and trails at the Dahlstrom Preserve. The firm would be a third party inspector that would conduct inspections for the storm water pollution prevention plan and make sure the conservation easement terms and conditions are adhered to during construction. The court will also consider an agreement with Holt Engineering for inspections during the parking lot and trail construction; Holt would be responsible for inspecting structural integrity and compliance with county standards.

The commissioners meet at 9 a.m. on the third floor of the Hays County Courthouse. Meetings are streamed live on the county’s website.
