The public is invited to the opening reception of the 21st annual Youth Art Month exhibit at the Walkers’ Gallery on Thursday, March 8, from 5 - 6:30 p.m. at the San Marcos Activity Center.

March is national Youth Art Month (YAM) and more than 100 artworks will be on display from San Marcos students, Pre-K - 12, through March 30.

Founded in 1961, the overall purpose of YAM is to direct attention to the value of art education which develops divergent and critical thinking, multicultural awareness and technical, communication and expressive skills. Youth Art Month had been celebrated annually at SMHS for many years, with support from parent volunteers the celebration was expanded to include the entire district and community more than 25 years ago.
