Reception for 'Play!' exhibit at Walkers' Gallery

Thursday, July 19, 2018

A free family friendly art event is planned for Saturday at the Activity Center as a reception for the current Walkers’ Gallery exhibit themed “Play!”

The gallery is a chatter and a giggle with a mix of playful interpretations of the theme.

There is art from children and youth as well as adults; many local artists and some from as far away as England.

Some of the art is quiet and inviting, some loud and boisterous; some is didactic and some purely abstract; some is just silly and fun.

A special feature of the exhibit are 14 prints by Milwaukee’s most whimsical animal artist Don Nedobeck!

Along with light refreshments and an opportunity to meet the artists, the public is invited to enjoy a playful interactive environment created by Austin artist and musician Amanda Jones.

Whimsical games, art activities, puppetry and general fun for all ages. Wear costumes or come as you are; bring your musical instruments if you want to form a spontaneous marching band.

Kazoos provided.

“Art and play have a lot in common," says Gallery curator Linda Kelsey-Jones. “Art is fun, expressive, and full of (safe) risk-taking challenges. Curiosity, ‘what if’ exploration, and discovery are components in all creativity.”

Summer is a great time for free play.

Please join us in the cool of the evening, 5-7 p.m. this Saturday, July 21 at the San Marcos Activity Center, 501 E. Hopkins.
