The road to La Cima opens

The Hays County Commissioners Court voted unanimously Tuesday to approve the road construction and drainage improvements for the La Cima development's Phase 1 roadway improvements to Centerpoint Road and Central Park Loop – with a letter of credit of $65,860 for release back to the contractor.

“Yesterday morning, Tuesday, Aug. 28, we received acceptance from the Hays County Commissioners Court of Centerpoint Road and that triggered the warranty period for us and allowed us to open the road,” project developer Eric Willis said.

The La Cima development is located on more than 2,000 acres near the intersection of Wonder World Drive and Old RR 12. The first phase of the development consisted of 128 homes on 50- and 60-foot lots. The next phase will start in November and will include the readying of 70-and 80-foot lots for construction. And additional 50- and 60-foot lots will start construction in February of 2019. According to Willis, the La Cima community will optimistically take about 10 to 12 years to build out and include more than 2,000 total living units when all is said and done.

Currently, Highland Homes and Wilshire Homes – two of the community’s builders – have their fully-furnished model homes ready for touring seven days a week. And construction on 50-and-60 foot lots for inventory and sold homes has already started. Approximately a dozen homes have already been purchased in the community, and according to Willis, the opening of Centerpoint Road will allow for more visibility and for more potential interest.

“We’re hoping for additional attraction and additional sales with the road open,” Willis said. “Most people were not coming in through the main entrance to get to the community, so we were probably missing potential buyers. But now with the road open, it shouldn’t be a problem.”

The community boasts several family-friendly amenities including parks with playscapes, a splash pad, a junior Olympic-level swimming pool, walking trails, a fitness center and even a site for a future school.

“It is part of our plan to convey at some point of time in the future a site to the school district that is at least 12 acres in size,” Willis said. “We also have plans for trails in the community that will open in spring 2019 – approximately 2 to 3 miles... and eventually our trail systems will connect to park land that the city owns and the Purgatory Creek trail system.”

Fifty-and-60-foot lot homes in the La Cima community start in the mid-$200,000s and go up into the mid-$300,000s. The 70-and-80-foot lots will start in the mid- $300,000 and go up to half a million, according to Willis.
