Self-watering gardens topic of meeting

Sunday, September 9, 2018

Spring Lake Garden Club will meet Thursday, Sept. 13. The meeting will be 9:15 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at McCoy’s Headquarters Conference Room located at 1350 North Interstate 35 on the east access road.

Janet Bradford of Wimberley will discuss her unique way of growing vegetables and herbs in a system that is both self watering and easy to cultivate.

Her question to gardeners is “Are you ready to garden without bending or kneeling, hoisting heavy tools, weeding or worrying about too much/too little water?”

Bradford developed her system after moving from North Texas in 2011 and having to adapt to the rocky soil conditions of Wimberley. Her system has many advantages for our local gardeners. Come and hear her presentation to see if her methods would work for you as well.

Spring Lake Garden Club is open to anyone interested in increasing their knowledge of gardening, especially concerning the gardening conditions and opportunities of the local area.

A popular ongoing project by the club is the selection of A Yard of the Month. An article and photos of the selected home site are publicized monthly in the San Marcos Daily Record. Other community projects include support of the San Marcos Food Bank and the San Marcos Heritage Association through participation in the Cottage Kitchen at the Cock House.

Visitors interested in local gardening methods and issues are always welcome. For more information, go to Spring Lake Garden Club's website.
