Alejandro G. Garza

Alejandro G. Garza

Thursday, October 4, 2018

Alejandro G. Garza was born on Sept. 13, 1953. He was called by the angels to be with his lord on Sept. 29, 2018. By his side (as always) was his loving wife of 47 years, Marylou Garza. In attendance at his final farewell to this world was Irene Rodriguez, whom he cherished as his own “sister.”

Alejandro was born in Ozona, Texas. He made his way to San Marcos in 1966 to participate in the programs Gary Job Corps had to offer. Alejandro joined the U.S. Navy in 1969. During that time period, he met the love of his life, Marylou Rodriguez. They have been inseparable since. Into their lives were born 2 children, Alex Dominic Garza and Michelle Elizabeth Garza. They were the pride of his life.

Preceding Alejandro in death are his parents, Ernesto and Bertha Garza, and his daughter, Michelle Elizabeth Garza. I predict that at this moment, Michele and Alejandro are backing in the glory of Jesus Christ in Heaven. What a beautiful gathering that must be.

In his life on this Earth, Alejandro was a founding member of the Guadalupe Chapel on Roosevelt Street. Alejandro was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, which will be the place of his farewell Mass from these earthly bonds. Alejandro was a member of the Knights of Columbus, CYO, and a crucista for his church.

His early years were spent at several jobs in San Marcos. These included Kerr-Ban, Scandia, and finally his place of retirement, Hays County Juvenile Center.

Love of family was important to Alejandro, as was his love of “conjunto” music. He became a sort of idol within that field, promoting several bands from the area. Santos Soza, Ruby Franco, and Chano Cadena were the groups he promoted. “Mr. Big” was the nickname by which he was known to close friends. All our love to “Mr. Big.”

Farewell to his brothers and sisters; Frank, Fred, and Joanne Garza, Alma Martinez, and Belinda Martinez. Farewell to all his friends, co-workers, and most importantly, Alex Dominic (son), Anthony Lux Garza, Katrina Garza, and Christopher Garza (grandchildren). Most importantly, farewell to Marylou, the love of his life. We will miss Alejandro immensely but rest assured his glory is with the Lord. Enjoy your time in Heaven with Michelle.

Alejandro’s family will receive friends at Thomason Funeral Home in San Marcos on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2018 from 3 through 9 p.m. with a Recitation of the Holy Rosary beginning at 7 p.m. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held in his honor at Saint John’s Catholic Church in San Marcos on Friday, Oct. 5, 2018 at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at San Juan Cemetery in Reedville, Texas.
