Alice A. Ballard

Alice A. Ballard, age 99, of San Marcos, Texas passed away on April 18, 2020, in San Marcos, Texas. Alice was born in Houston, Texas to Annie B. and George Grover Attaway on November 27, 1920. She attended first grade in Junction, Texas and the remainder of her elementary and high school years in Montgomery, Texas. She attended Incarnate Word College in San Antonio, Texas.

Alice married John R. Ballard on December 20, 1941, in Seguin, Texas. John was a graduate of Southwest Texas State University with a Masters Degree in Education, followed by a PhD in Education from A&M University. John was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy digging dredge to make river ways. Alice worked in the Auditing Department of Alamo National Bank in San Antonio, later transferring to become Executive Secretary to the V.P. of the same bank. She was involved in her church, First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, in San Marcos for many years.

Alice is preceded in death by her spouse, John R. Ballard, and sons, James Warren Ballard and John Garland Ballard. Alice is survived by her nieces Johnann Davis of Arlington, Texas, and Anne Ballard of Ft. Worth, Texas; nephews Bruce Ballard of Adkins, Texas, and Keith Ballard of San Antonio, Texas; and grand-niece Jennifer Hammermeister of Corinth, Texas; many friends and distant relatives. A memorial service will be announced and held at a future date at First Christian Church, 3105 Ranch RD 12, San Marcos, Texas with Gregory Ross, Senior Minister officiating.

Arrangements are by Pennington Funeral Home with a private interment at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, Texas. Memorials may be given to First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, San Marcos, Texas or to the individual John R. Ballard, John G. Ballard, James W. Ballard Scholarship Funds at Texas State University, San Marcos, Texas.
